Classroom Management
Respect, responsibility, and personal accountability are the skills that I try to instill in every student through my behavior management. I hope to help students grow as members of their classroom community, and grow into successful members of our greater society. One of the biggest ways that I teach my expectations for respect, responsibility, and personal accountability is through modeling and explicit directions. I do my best to maintain a positive example for each of these factors.
I am a huge advocate for the Responsive Classroom program as a classroom management system. While I have read and researched much about the program, I will be continuing my education on it by attending Responsive Classroom training this summer. The combination of positivity and accountability of behavior for the student matches my ideals about classroom management perfectly, and I am excited to continue honing my skills in using this method.
On an individual basis, I make an effort to work with each student and his/her parents to work on any consistent misbehavior. Having frequent, effective communication with parents allows me insight into what works best for each child from the very beginning of the year. Some students may respond to a self-reflection of their behavior for the day, while others may need my direct guidance to learn what appropriate behavior is.
